Resolver
Resolver
is a software tool used to analyze complex situations. Using a method
known as Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM), the software provides
a process for inspecting or de-risking a decision-making process.
Resolver helps you focus your thinking on the interactions between
the separate issues that make up the problem. This process ensures
that all factors are addressed and considered before identifying
a proper course of action.
How
it is used in Practice
Typically,
participants are asked to brainstorm a list of issues or items based
on a problem/situational statement (trigger question). To evaluate
these issues, participants are given a wireless, hand-held, numeric
keypad so their individual opinions can be heard.
These responses are transmitted through the keypad (via an FM signal)
to a receiver, which is connected to a laptop computer running the
software. The results are displayed at the front of the room via
a standard LCD projector.
Once a list of issues has been generated, they may then be ranked
or categorized to enhance focus on a subset of issues. Next, using
the ISM process, The Resolver produces a chart or model that visually
depicts the interrelationships between each of the elements and
reveals underlying concepts and patterns that facilitates discussion,
understanding, decision-making and action planning. The model points
the group in the direction of the desired goal and reveals the steps
to be taken in their proper sequence to achieve that goal.
